Why I Liked it: It’s easy to get caught up in life’s demands and overlook all the little things we should take time to be thankful for. I get it. Life is busy.
As a working parent of three—with two kids enrolled in multiple daily activities and the third a highly energetic toddler— I often find myself overwhelmed by life’s never-ending “to do” list.
Throw in the added stress that comes with the holiday season, like figuring out Halloween costumes, hosting over 30 people at our home for Thanksgiving, and buying gifts for Christmas, and it can feel like the world is crashing down around me. In the past, I have completely dreaded this time of year, and I know other parents who feel the same way.
Enter The Five-Minute Journal. I purchased this journal after hearing a few friends scream its praises. Curious, though not really expecting much, I gave it a shot. I can honestly say that I AM HOOKED!
As per the journal instructions, each morning I start off with an inspirational quote that I take a few minutes to really let sink in. Then, fill in three things I am thankful for, and three things that would make my day great. Finally, I add a daily affirmation. There is also a space at the bottom of each page that encourages me to think about what was good about my day and what could have been better.
The journal’s simple format makes gratitude easy to practice. It has been amazing how taking only FIVE MINUTES every morning to focus on gratitude has changed my perspective on my “problems” and “stress,” and reduced anxiety in my life.
I feel confident that I am now prepared to tackle this holiday season by simply focusing on all of the goodness in my life, rather than getting bogged down by everything that needs to be done.
I have so much to be thankful for, and likely you do too. If we could all focus on the good, I really think the world could be a much better place.
Of all of the Wednesday Reads books we have reviewed, I think The Five-Minute Journal will have the biggest impact on the most people. It applies to EVERYONE. I truly want you to experience the gratitude and reduced stress like I have since starting this practice. I believe it will really make a positive impact on your life!
